This lesson explores Writing Tools working with CoverCraft, a simple app for drafting cover letters. Follow along by downloading the sample app here. When you build and run the app found in the starter folder, and then enter some text, you should see something like this:

To use Apple Intelligence, you need a Mac computer with Apple silicon, an iPad with Apple silicon, or an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max or later. You’ll also need iOS 18.1 or iPadOS 18.1. Although this module focuses on iOS and iPadOS, Writing Tools also runs on macOS Sequoia.

Note: Initially, Apple Intelligence will only be available in U.S. English, so your device and Siri languages should be set accordingly.

Meet In-line Writing Tools

In-line Writing Tools polishes existing text, offering the options to Proofread or Rewrite. Although the tools rely on a generative LLM, they do not generate text from scratch. Instead, the user must first enter some text and then select it to conjure the Writing Tools.
